Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

My office is located at Lavender House, 78 West Street Toowoomba. The office is wheelchair accessible with accessible parking provided at the front of the building. Heaps of free parking is available on site behind the building. We’ll meet in a comfortable and cozy room filled with natural light, plants and greenery, and comfy cushions.

Do you offer Medicare or private health rebates?

For eligible clients who have a mental health treatment plan, a rebate of $87.25 per hourly session (up to 10 sessions per calendar year) is available. Only your GP can determine if you meet criteria for a mental health treatment plan and make a referral.

Some private health insurance providers may also cover services of Accredited Mental Health Social Workers - please contact your fund to explore this option.

Family therapy and couples therapy is not covered by Medicare, and rebates are not available for these services.

What is your fee?

From January 2026, individual sessions are charged at $190 for a one hour session. Couples therapy is charged at $200 for a one hour session.

Reduced fees may be available on a case by case basis - please contact me to discuss further.

Do I need a referral?

No! While GP or other specialist referrals are welcome, you are able to self refer directly to Jess by email, via the contact form on this website, or by phoning 0449 910 271.

How do I pay for my appointment?

At the time of booking an initial session you will receive an introductory email outlining the practice policies, including payment information. Payment is currently preferred via direct deposit prior to, or at the time of your appointment.

What is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker?

An Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) is a qualified social worker who has completed advanced training and demonstrated expertise in the assessment and treatment of mental health concerns. Accreditation is awarded by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and recognises high standards of clinical experience, ongoing professional development, and adherence to ethical practice.

Similar to psychologists, Accredited Mental Health Social Workers are recognised providers under Medicare, enabling eligible clients to access rebates for focused psychological strategies under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan.

AMHSWs used evidence-based interventions to support individuals, couples, families, and groups across the lifespan, supporting concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. They are trained to consider not only individual symptoms, but also the broader social, relational, and systemic factors that shape wellbeing.

Does a family therapist only work with whole families?

No! While family therapists have special skills in working with multiple family members in the same room together, family therapy is more about how the therapist is thinking about the family system, not just having everyone in the therapy room! I strongly believe that one person can influence changes across a family system through the ripple effects of responding or interacting in a new way - so even if you are worried your family members don’t want to come to therapy with you, I encourage you to reach out to me.

What do I do if I can’t come to my appointment?

Please provide as much notice as possible if you are unable to attend - 48 hours is appreciated so that your appointment time can be offered to somebody else. I understand that life happens and sickness is unavoidable so there may be times that you are unable to provide a full 48 hours notice - Telehealth appointments may be available as an alternative. You may be charged a cancellation fee equal to 50% of the hourly rate if you cancel without notice.
